I am looking to purchase a diagnostic code reader like the actron cp9175,9180. Does anybody out there have one of these and would you recommend the purchase of this item? I would rather have one that goes back even further than 96 like say 87 or so but I know I will have to purchase the different cables for the hook-up on different cars, please advise. Jerry

Yeah actron are great code readers. 9175 is good. I believe the 9175 & 9180 are not obd-1 compliant. But Cp9190, Cp9145, Cp9150, Cp9185 is both obd-1 and obd-2 compliant. Most readers today come with obd-2 cables, Some with a obd-1 cable already. So yes you may need obd-1 cable for a 1987 if not included. Make sure you read whats included in the box before buying it.
